Our calm environment and experienced meditation teachers make the Manhattan Meditation Center a wonderful place to attend lectures, courses and events – in person or online.

Our spacious silence room is a ready-to-use resource to experience inner stillness, either quietly or through guided meditation. Do you want to learn to meditate, gain insight into the higher self, understand the world we live in a little better, or explore living by spiritual principles? Then this is the place to be.

Our purpose

Our history

Look inward, upward and forward

A safe and serene spiritual oasis, the center inspires people of every background to explore their true nature, innate values and higher purpose.

We have a room for courses and public lectures, and a meditation room where we hold guided sessions. The meditation room can also be used for personal meditation and reflection – or simply to sit in silence, away from the buzz of everyday life.

1930s

The Brahma Kumaris is founded in India – the first of what is now a worldwide network of centers.

1977

The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization is established as a charity in the USA.

1997

The Manhattan Meditation Center opens its doors on Fifth Avenue.

Today

The center welcomes people from every walk of life to its talks, courses and meditations – in person and online.

The Manhattan Meditation Center is an initiative of the Brahma Kumaris, which teaches Raja Yoga meditation as a way of experiencing peace of mind and a positive approach to life. People of all religious and cultural backgrounds are welcome to explore their own spirituality and learn skills of reflection and meditation that develop inner calm, clear thinking and personal wellbeing.

At the United Nations

With its spiritual headquarters in Mount Abu, India, the Brahma Kumaris is an international NGO accredited with General Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It contributes a spiritual perspective on awareness, attitude, vision and action to work on climate change, gender equality, global public health, human rights, youth and more.

In the USA

Established in 1977 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, BKWSO USA charges no fees and is funded solely by voluntary contributions. Peace Village in the Catskills is our learning and retreat center, offering weekend retreats to learn meditation and study spiritual knowledge.

Mohini Panjabi

Spiritual leadership

Mohini Panjabi

President of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization of the USA, with over 60 years of study and practice of Raja Yoga.

Born in India, she came to the West in her twenties and has served as the main spiritual resource for the Brahma Kumaris in the Western Hemisphere since the mid-1970s. A much sought-after international speaker, she represents the Brahma Kumaris at the United Nations and is based in Great Neck, New York. Her special gift is presenting spiritual principles in ways that people from every discipline can understand and apply.
